Santa's monopoly on Christmas photography is being challenged by the growth of our Nativity Photos.
They offer children and families the chance to dress up as Mary, Joseph or the three wise people and be photographed in a life-size nativity setting. Parishioners at St. John's have made the costumes and photographer Gavin Hansford takes the photos.
The Nativity Photos began when Howard Langmead wanted to offer an alternative to Santa photos. Since they began three years ago the idea has spread around Australia. Howard has even been interviewed about them on Vatican Radio from Rome.
Angels are the most popular costume and many people bring their own babies to place in the manger, in one case twins. Some babies haven't heard about "no crying he makes".
